Business Innovation Introduction

There’s a lot more into design than what meets the eye. Effective, or in this case innovative design is more than just simply being able to provide the world with new aesthetically pleasing technology and processes, it is, most importantly, about meeting the needs of people. Nowadays, advancements in different fields are easier to get by compared to past decades. With the vast amount of resources we have now, we are able to grasp bigger possibilities for both the near and far future. Designers have a big role to play in the businesses that run to provide services to different audiences with particular needs in society. Companies such asSonicRim, IDEO, Adaptive Path, Experientia, Phillips have departments in which designers are involved to help conceptualize future scenarios different areas of societies may or may not have. Having this kind of department within a business, although possibly requiring separate focus from other branches within the company, will increasingly benefit your customers and the company itself. Such attention to future details can may well be considered a worthy investment. According to Guy Kawasaki “The root of great companies is make meaning vs. make money.” Making meaning for you projects will get you a long way in the business as this mean you are targeting a need or a solution to a problem that would otherwise be a short-lived endeavor. Looking at the companies mentioned prior, such as IDEO, we can see that the philosophy of making meaning brings out effective and memorable outcomes. Below is an example of work from IDEO.org (humanitarian branch of IDEO) that identifies them as a company and displays the success of their business model.

Studio work:
Today studio work basically gave us a better insight on what is to be expected during the next 3 weeks. Fortunately, it was good to be able to find out what is in store for us in this project, and it has encouraged us to look forward to and take on the challenge that is to come.
